I’m Scotty James, a Gold Coast–based surfboard shaper specialising in handcrafted performance boards.

For decades, I’ve refined boards that feel balanced, responsive, and tuned to the waves we actually surf. Each board is shaped by hand, one at a time, with care and intention - whether it’s made for you, or made with you.

My understanding comes from a lifetime in the water and years spent learning the craft alongside respected shapers, beginning under Carsy and evolving through constant refinement. Having shaped well over a thousand boards, my focus remains unchanged: how a board feels when it’s ridden.

I work closely with surfers of all levels, taking the time to understand your surfing, your waves, and your goals. For those seeking a deeper connection to the craft, I also offer a hands-on board-building experience (designing, shaping, & glassing) alongside me in the bay, and gaining a genuine understanding of design, materials, and feel.

I also undertake thoughtful repairs, modifications, and restorations. Well-loved boards deserve to be treated properly.
