FAQs
How long does the experience take?
Typically 2-4 days. This gives enough time to design properly, shape without rushing, and actually understand what you’re building. Depends on how practical you are with your hands.
Do I need shaping experience?
No. You don’t need skills - just curiosity and respect for the process. You’ll be guided through every step.
Will the board be as good as one you’d normally make?
Yes. The board is designed and finished to the same standard - the difference is you understand it because you helped build it.
Is this suitable for beginners?
No. This is for experienced surfers who already surf confidently and want to refine equipment, not learn basics.
Can I just order a board without the experience?
Yes. The options of Shape & Ride, Eat Sleep Shape , and The Full Monty all exist for surfers who want more than just another board. If you’re here, it’s usually because that matters to you.
Why are there so few spots available?
Because quality drops when volume rises. Limiting spots ensures proper one-on-one time and a better outcome for every board.
Can I rush the process if I’m short on time?
No. Rushing leads to poor decisions. This experience is intentionally paced.
What waves will we surf?
Gold Coast and surrounding breaks, chosen based on conditions during your stay.
What happens if surf conditions aren’t perfect?
Shaping knowledge lasts longer than any swell. Surf happens when it happens - the value remains either way.
Why does Eat Sleep Shape cost more than buying a board off the rack?
Because it’s designed to be a different kind of experience. The options of Shape & Ride, Eat Sleep Shape, and The Full Monty all offer:
-
personal time with an experienced shaper
-
hands-on involvement in the shaping process
-
knowledge that stays with you long after the build
-
a board designed specifically for how and where you surf
-
this is intentionally limited and unhurried to protect quality
-
for surfers who value craft, understanding, and longevity, it offers far greater value beyond a standard purchase
What should I know about deposits and pricing ranges?
A $250 AUD deposit secures your dates and is non-refundable once confirmed.
Final pricing reflects build details such as board size, design complexity, finishes (including tints and cutlaps), or multiple boards, which is why pricing is shown as a range.
